International Day of Audiovisual Education

Join teachers and experts from across the V4 countries and celebrate the beginning of the school year at International Day of Audiovisual Education!

We cordially invite teachers, lecturers, representatives of schools and institutions, and experts in the field of film education to the Kino Kavalírka on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 for a GARDEN PARTY featuring film screenings, workshops on changes to the Framework Educational Program, sharing of best practices, and discussions on the topic of audiovisual education with foreign guest Klemen Dvornik, director of films for children and young people.

The initiative was launched by the krutón association and will connect events at AV HUB Prague (Kino Kavalírka), AV HUB Brno (kino Art), AV HUB Jihlava (Documentary Film Center), and other locations in Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary.

  • Registered participants of International Day of Audiovisual Education are offered 1+1 free admission to the screening.

FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL EDUCATION IN THE NEW CURRICULUM

START 1:00 p.m.

Participants will learn what the reform entails in educational practice, with a focus on the area of Art and Culture in the updated Framework Educational Program, and how the field of Art and Film Education is structured.

You will learn about the reforms in educational practice focusing on the area of art and culture in the updated Framework Educational Program and the structure of the field of art and film education. We will touch on model curriculum documents, mention some misinformation and prejudices, and show possibilities for further professional development for teachers interested in this discipline. The course will be led by educator and ASFAV chairwoman Mgr. Zuzana Havelková and educator Mgr. et Mgr. Petr Pláteník from the Association for Film and Audiovisual Education, who were directly involved in the changes to the Framework Educational Program. Participants can receive a certificate of completion.

AUDIOVISUAL EDUCATION FOR THE YOUNGEST

START 3:30 p.m.

An afternoon of relaxation in the beautiful garden of the Kino Kavalírka will offer a meeting of preschool and primary school teachers on the topic of audiovisual education for the youngest children.

You can look forward to a welcome drink and refreshments. We will introduce you to film education programs such as Cinemini and Cinetots, and for those interested, we will screen selected short films that we work with during our workshops. You will learn what Audiovisual HUB is and how it can be beneficial in the field of film education. During the meeting, we will also talk about how teachers perceive the potential of film education, whether and how they use films in teaching, and what their needs are in this area. 

 

AUDIOVISUAL EDUCATION FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

START 5:00 p.m.

An afternoon of relaxation in the beautiful garden of Kino Kavalírka will offer a meeting on the topic of audiovisual education for teachers of primary and secondary schools.

You can look forward to a welcome drink and refreshments, as well as a presentation of the film education programs of the krutón association and a new book by FAMU teacher, dramaturge, and film and audiovisual education expert Jiří Forejt. You will find inspiration for film education in practice at the Young & Short mini-workshop, accompanied by a screening of the short film My Name is Edgar and I Have a Cow, as well as a presentation of film education methodologies from professional organizations not only from the V4 countries, which will soon be available free of charge. You will learn what the Audiovisual HUB is and how it can benefit schools in the field of film education. During the meeting, we will also discuss how teachers perceive the potential of film education, whether and how they work with films in their teaching, and what their needs are in this area.

WHAT CAN YOU LOOK FORWARD TO?

  • Film and audiovisual education: an introduction to subject-specific research – MgA. Jiří Forejt, PhD. will present his recently published book, in which he shows that films, animations, and even digital games are not just entertainment, but have enormous educational potential.
  • Inspiration from abroad: Film education methodologies from V4 countries for teachers – The krutón association will present film education methodologies not only from V4 countries, which are intended for teachers and are being developed as part of the international FilmED project. From autumn 2025, they will be available in Czech and free of charge on the website currently under construction.
  • MINI workshop Young & Short: How to do film education in practice – How to incorporate film education into teaching as easily as possible? Lecturers from the krutón association will present the Young & Short program and show that a short film and a well-led film education discussion are often enough for film education that supports critical thinking.

 

CINEMATOGRAPHY FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A FILMMAKER – KLEMEN DVORNIK

START 6:50 p.m.

A discussion with Slovenian director Klemen Dvornik about why it is important to make films for children and young people and what this means for filmmakers. You will learn details about the film Block 5 (Igrisca ne damo!), how filming with teenagers works, and the state of cinema for children and young people in Slovenia and beyond.

Film screening and Q&A with director Klemen Dvornik and other filmmakers.

Registered participants of International  Day of Audiovisual Education are invited to attend with a free 1+1 ticket.
