ABOUT US

KRUTÓN is a Czech non-profit organization with an international reach, dedicated to film education and the development of film culture. Since 2015, we have been creating programs for children, young people, teachers, families, elderly people, cinemas, and film professionals.

In the Czech context, we connect everyday practice at Kino Kavalírka with the development and testing of educational methodologies, short film distribution, professional training, the BOO International Short Film Festival, and collaboration with prominent European institutions.

Vision

We want to contribute to a society where audiences understand audiovisual content, think about it critically, and actively engage with it. We strive for an environment where high-quality film culture is accessible across generations, and where cinemas, schools, and creators view their audiences as an active part of cultural and social life.

Mission

We develop, test, and spread innovative film and audiovisual literacy programs both in the Czech Republic and internationally. Our work rests on four main pillars:

  • Education from children to professionals: We work with children starting from preschool age, train teachers, and help cinemas discover new ways of engaging audiences.

  • International innovation in practice: Through European projects (Cinemini EDUAudiovisual Connect LAB), we create new educational methodologies, which we test in everyday practice at Kino Kavalírka, in schools, and in partner cinemas.

  • A festival as a laboratory: The BOO International Short Film Festival serves as a living laboratory for new programming and educational approaches. We make selected short films further accessible through distribution and educational programs.

  • Testing new projects: We test upcoming films and series with our target audiences and pass the acquired feedback on to creators for their further creative and production development.
