Fairplay is a satire about competitiveness, the pressure to succeed, and the desire not to be left behind. Across three episodes, it follows a teenage boy seeking recognition, a man willing to do almost anything to win, and a manager at the end of his career who wants to prove he’s not yet past his best. The main characters’ journeys are different, but they are all driven by the same desire to succeed, prove themselves and beat the others. Zoel Aeschbacher’s dynamic short film uses exaggeration to show how easily fair play can turn into an absurd pursuit of victory at any cost.
The film was awarded a Special Jury Prize at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2023, the Best Short Film award at the Cinema Jove International Film Festival in Valencia 2023, or awards for Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Soundtrack Music at the Bucharest International Short Film Festival 2023.
